Put on your walking shoes and take a big step toward better health. San Angelo Community Medical Center is proud to offer the Walk with a Doc program. Join us at the Red Arroyo Trail to meet with a physician for an open discussion about health matters, followed by a one- or two-mile walk. Interventional cardiologists, Drs. Blanc & Sun and invasive cardiologist Dr. Macwar as well as other SACMC physicians will lead the walks. There's nothing else like it!
Enjoy the trail and the collection of outdoor art along the way. The works of art are destined to become one of the most unique public spaces in West Texas. Participants will be able to exercise, gain valuable health information and enjoy the creative and unique art along the way.
Michael Blanc, M.D., interventional cardiologist, is the leader of San Angelo Community Medical Center's Walk with a Doc initiative. (Walk with a Doc is held twice a month on the first and third Wednesdays.) Walk with a Doc begins at the Red Arroyo Trail across from Unidad Park (3245 Vista Del Arroyo Dr.), with a five minute information brief on a health topic, followed by a 30-45 minute walk, giving you a chance to ask questions and make new friends.
A physician leads each session, including our heart team as well as family practitioners, internists, and obstetricians. New topics are covered at each meeting. Walk with a Doc is free and doesn’t require registration.
You can set your own pace and set your own distance. This isn’t a race, but an opportunity to get outside and get going with a group of like-minded people who are interested in increasing their activity and improving their health.
Research has shown that participating in moderate exercise, like brisk walking, on regular basis delivers health benefits ranging from lowering blood pressure and cholesterol and increasing circulation to helping with weight control and reducing the risk of diabetes.
Walk with a Doc is a national program, started by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio, that encourages patients to incorporate physical activity into their lifestyle. There are more than 100 programs around the world, including the Cleveland Clinic, which has been ranked as the #1 cardiac hospital in the U.S. for the past 20 years, hosting 11 Walk with a Doc events each week.
