Robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery that uses a computer-assisted technology to aid in surgical procedures. Rather than operating on patients through large incisions, surgeons use miniaturized surgical instruments that fit through a series of small incisions to reduce scarring and recovery time.
Robotic-assisted surgery may offer several benefits for patients:
Will my insurance cover my surgery if it is robot assisted?
Once your insurance approves your surgery, it will be covered if your surgeon uses the robot as well. The robot is simply a tool used by your surgeon to improve the outcome for your surgery.
Can the surgeon feel anything inside the patient's chest or abdomen while using the robotic-assisted surgery system?
Yes. The system relays force feedback sensations from the operative field back to the surgeon throughout the procedure. Force feedback provides a substitute for tactile sensation.

Before you decide on surgery, discuss treatment options with your doctor. Understanding the risks and benefits of each treatment can help you make the best decision for your individual situation.
