Speech Language Pathology
Speech Language Pathology(SLP) at San Angelo Community Medical Center helps restore functional communication skills and covers articulation, language deficits, voice disorders, stuttering, cognition or memory and restoring speech production. The SLP evaluates and treats swallowing disorders and oral motor dysfunction. Some commonly seen diagnosis include:
- Stroke
- Head injury
- Aneurysm
- Throat Cancer
- Degenerative Diseases
- Vocal Cord Paralysis
- ALS
The SLP at SACMC is a certified Vital-Stim provider which is a very effective modality for the return of facial and vocal strength, as well as, to increase the patient ability to swallow.
Video fluoroscopy
The SLP at SACMC also performs Video Fluoroscopy Swallow Studies which allows her to identify and treat specific swallowing disorders resulting from some of the diagnoses listed above. This test allows the SLP to view the extent of swallowing difficulty; and determine the therapy necessary for modification and treatment to prevent aspiration.
