Cardiac Rehabilitation Center
Located in the Community Medical Associates Three (CMA Three) building at 3350 Executive Drive, SACMC's Cardiac Rehabilitation Center provides cardiac rehabilitation services designed to help patients with heart disease recover faster and return to a full and productive life. A physician who is board certified in internal medicine, registered nurses, and certified respiratory therapists with specialized education in cardiovascular disease are available during cardiac rehabilitation.
Cardiac rehabilitation consists of two phases:
Phase I occurs in the hospital and focuses on immediate treatment of the cardiovascular disease that caused the patient's hospitalization.
Phase II is a 12-week, outpatient, physician-prescribed exercise and lifestyle modification program during which the patient works on several cardiac exercise machines and participates in other activities designed to strengthen the heart. The exercise therapy for Phase II is individually tailored for each patient and consists of light weight training and cardiovascular exercises such as the treadmill, the stepper, a rowing exercise, walking and bicycling. After Phase II, the patient is encouraged to join the Community Health Club of San Angelo.
Heart to Heart
This is a support group of people who have experienced a cardiovascular event and want to share experiences. THe purpose of this group is to help others and encourage a heart-healthy lifestyle. Members help others who have experienced a cardiac event by going to the hospital and talking with patients, providing moral support and telling them what to expect. The support group is open to patients and family members. During support group meetings, guest speakers are invited to speak to keep members informed about cardiovascular health and other topics.
